It’s everyone’s favorite time of year: October. With golden leaves dancing through the air, the return of Starbucks’ seasonal flavors, and Halloween decor becoming omnipresent, it can only mean one thing—it’s playoff season at Jesuit High School.
The leaves and temperature aren’t the only things dropping this fall; our men and women’s soccer, volleyball, and football teams have been placed in the running for OSAA State Championships, where the winners move on and those defeated say goodbye to their season.
The number 2 ranked Jesuit Men’s Soccer team will face 31-seed Forest Grove on Saturday, October 28 at noon on Cronin Field. Later that day our Women’s Soccer team will play the 32-seed, Nelson High School at 3:00pm on their home turf as well.
The women head into the playoffs ranked as the number one seed after an impressive, undefeated regular season. Both soccer programs are ready to reclaim the title they so effortlessly obtained last season.
Starting off strong and continuing the momentum they’ve had this whole season, the Women’s Volleyball team slid through the first round of playoffs on Wednesday, October 25 with a three-set win against Jefferson at home. They will join the men and women’s soccer team in Saturday’s match-ups, where they will go head-to-head with 16-seed Grant High School. Jesuit’s biggest competition is Sprague High School, seed-2, who resides on the other side of the bracket. After coming up short the last two years, the big question is: Will Coach Zim and her team be able to claim the Oregon State Title and add another banner in the Knight Gym?
The final team entering the state knockout round is the Jesuit Men’s Football team. Last Thursday, October 19, the crusaders bested the Mountainside Mavericks, resulting in their state rank bumping into the top 16 and claiming their spot in the OSAA 6A State Championship Bracket. They will conclude their regular season as Metro League Champions if they defeat 40-ranked Beaverton on Friday, October 27 on the Beavers turf at 7:00pm.
For the Jesuit Men and Women’s Cross Country teams, they will compete for the state title on November 4 at Lane Community College in Eugene Oregon. After both walking away from the district meet in first place, the Jesuit Cross Country Program is on the ball for reclaiming the Men and Women’s Oregon State Title.
As the fall sports season comes to a close, it will be interesting to see where these Jesuit’s fall programs will stand in the end, and how they set the tone for Jesuit sports this year.
