Men’s Soccer Recap: Senior Night
On Thursday night, Jesuit took on the Mountainside Mavericks, the second placed team in the Metro League. The Crusaders looked to stay top in Metro, and maintain their #2 6A OSAA ranking. As rain poured down, Jesuit kicked off for the last regular season game.
Jesuit immediately started on the front foot, with Drew Pedersen crossing the ball to Luc Insley who narrowly shot it over the goal. They eventually found the breakthrough only a few minutes later, as senior Spencer Carle chipped it over the Mountainside keeper.
The Crusaders continued to assert their dominance, pushing on for another goal. Drew Pedersen had multiple chances in front of goal, the closest being a 1v1 with the keeper, which was saved superbly. The half ended with Jesuit leading by their early goal.
After the break, Mountainside attempted to get back into the game, but Jesuit’s defense stood strong. Defensive performances from senior Brady McClellan and junior Richard Anderson stifled the Mountainside attack, and left them with few chances to shoot on goal.
Jesuit began to attack for another goal to seal off the game. Drew Pedersen finally found his goal, tapping the ball home off a corner kick. Only a minute later, he got his second as a free kick was lifted into the box and fell to his feet, which he smashed into the back of the net. He ended the regular season with 14 goals and 5 assists.
Jesuit comfortably controlled the rest of the match, ending the game with a 3-0 win. It was a special night for seniors, as the team ended the regular season in a perfect way. This will give them confidence for the next playoff games that are fast approaching. As winners of Metro League, expectations will be high for this Jesuit squad.
