Varsity Baseball Playoff Preview
Jesuit Baseball is looking for revenge this year after losing to Lake Oswego last season in round two.
This season, the team has come out stronger than ever, backed by senior pitcher Noble Meyer. Already committed to the University of Oregon and projected to get drafted to the MLB, Meyer is a big source of the Crusaders’ success.
Even with Meyer, Jesuit has other strong pitchers, including Ty Alleman and Ryan Cooney.
Jesuit started the season strong with a 10-2 win against Skyview, followed by a 9-6 win against West Linn and a 4-0 win against Sprague.
During spring break, the team headed to Florida for a high-level tournament. Facing some of the best teams in the country, they recorded three losses and one win.
Jesuit refused to be deterred, as they brushed off the losses to go on an eleven-game unbeaten streak in the Metro League. They easily swept the series against Westview, Southridge, and Aloha.
The Crusaders faced their first Metro League loss against Sunset. Lackluster pitching led Sunset to capitalize to an 8-2 win against Jesuit. Yet, the team recovered to win the series with a 5-1 win in the third game.
Jesuit also dropped a game against Mountainside but still ended up winning the series. They carried the momentum into their matchup against Beaverton, which they swept, including a dominant 12-0 win against Beaverton on Senior Night.
Closing out their schedule, Jesuit played non-league games against Grant and Clackamas, winning both.
The Crusaders are currently ranked #2 in OSAA, with a 22-5 overall record, and a 16-2 record in Metro. They have scored 196 runs in the season and only allowed 59 runs.
Jesuit’s first playoff game will be against #31 ranked Willamette on May 22nd. If the Crusaders progress, they will play either McMinnville or Ida B. Wells. They will look to make it far in this year’s playoffs and are one of the favorites to win the state championship.
