Students raise money last year for the CCA walk at a football game.

On Sunday, September 24, the annual CCA Walk For Joy event will take place in Portland Downtown.

Jesuit High School has a long relationship with the CCA and Joy RX.

These companies’ mission is to provide assistance and support to ill children and their families.

This is the 10th year all the sister Catholic High School’s come together to walk for this cause.

Students from Jesuit, St Mary’s Academy, Valley Catholic, De La Salle, North Catholic, and Central Catholic have the opportunity to create their own personal fundraising in order to encourage family and friends to donate to this cause.

Colleen O’Mahony, director of the CLARC, is taking a primary role in the planning of this event.

“It’s super nice to be able to have something where we are not competing on the field. But we are all together working towards something that we all believe in.”

This year, O’Mahony is filling the role of Elaine Kloser, who continues to take a big part in the planning of this event.

O’Mahony is encouraging students to get signed up, create fundraising pages, and just become involved in the cause.

She emphasizes the importance of getting involved no matter how big or small your donation might be.

“But at the end of the day, we all support in different ways and just coming out and walking and wearing your purple and being part of it is awesome.”

Senior Mary Pearl, has participated in this event in the past and actively raised money for this cause.

“The CCA walk has been an incredible experience over the past 3 walks. My favorite part is connecting with people from other schools and hearing stories about how the CCA makes a difference in kids’ lives.”

Students are still able to sign up and participate in this event.

There will be buckets to pass out on the football game on Friday if anyone is interested in making donations.

If you are a student you are also able to wear sweats to school by showing your support and wearing purple on Friday!
