On Thursday, April 4th, the Jesuit Crusaders took on the Lake Oswego Lakers at Cronin field in women’s lacrosse. This game was a rematch of the neck and neck championship games in 2023 and 2022, where Jesuit came out on top on both.
This game had a different turnout, where Lake Oswego came out victorious, 14-13
One of the Crusader captains, Quinny Handley, spoke about the defeat.
“I think because of our previous wins, losing our game really gives us a chip on our shoulder and takes a lot of the pressure to be perfect off,” Handley said. “I know we are working on a lot of new things that we learned from the loss and I am excited for what the rest of the season has in store.”
Handley quickly scored, putting Jesuit ahead of the Lakers. By the end of the game, Handley finished with 6 goals.
Lake Oswego’s Marin Kelley scored the next goal in the second quarter. She then frequently scored, putting Lake Oswego ahead in the second half. Millie Prager added to the score as well.
By the beginning of the fourth quarter, the score was 12-9 Lakers, but the Crusaders came back with a goal by Georgia Daskalos, making the score a 1 point difference.
One of Jesuit’s captains, Gigi Abernethy, mentioned how they anticipate changing during future games.
“After the game we were disappointed in the outcome, however, it was a great learning experience for our team and we saw the areas where we needed to improve on,” said Abernethy. “Going into our next game, we are more prepared for all the different things that we faced during the game against Lake Oswego.”
