On Wednesday April 17th, Jesuit defeated Aloha 114-29 in men’s and 127-8 in women’s Track and Field.
The first races of the day began with the men’s and women’s 4×100 meter relay, where the men’s team won with a time of 44.80, and the women’s team won with a time of 51.57.
The men’s sprint team had a great day on the track where junior Christopher Lowe won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.28, and the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.60. Sophomore Noah Harris won the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.37, and senior James Timmins won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.50 seconds.
The women’s field events had the top performer in every single event, starting out with Lorrell Shiely in shot put with a throw of 32’ 10.5, Sadie Ross with a discuss toss of 96’ 9, Marissa Rystadt with a javelin throw of 99’ 1, Kalli Kessler with a high jump of 4’ 10, Anya Mahorowala with a pole vault of 9’ 6, Annalina Grotbeck with a long jump of 15’ 8.75, and Abigail Rosenbaum with a triple jump of 32’ 8.
The men’s field events also had a great day, with Soren Gaston winning the discus with a throw of 117 ‘8, Charlie Goodwin with a javelin throw of 155′ 10, and Isaac Bongen with a high jump of 5 ‘4. Sam Curvy posted a personal record in the triple jump of 39 ‘8, and he has been having a blast so far this season.
“Throughout my first season of track, I’ve been able to compete well and find a group of supportive teammates and friends. This season has been very fun, and I am excited to hopefully jump in twilight and districts later on,” Curvy stated.
The women’s distance team kept up the dominance where they swept the 800, 1500, and 3000 meter races. Senior Amalie Beil won the 800 with a time of 2:18.71, junior Maura O’Scannlain won the 1500 with a time of 4:51.25, and junior Emma Bennett won the 3000 with a time of 9:57.86 placing her with the 32nd best 3000 in the United States this spring.
Senior distance runner Caden Swanson won the 3000 with a time of 8:42.06, and is super excited with how this season has started.
“The track season has been off to a really strong start. We have won all of our dual meets thus far including against the defending metro league champions Sunset. These positive results will help carry us through to twilight relays coming this Friday,” Swanson stated.
The team is now preparing for the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays this Friday at Jesuit High School with events running from 2:00-9:00 pm against some of the best teams from the Pacific Northwest.
