When he’s not hitting strike after strike at the bowling lanes, Skylar Lopez, Jesuit’s new Campus Safety Monitor, can be found in the security booth outside Knight Lobby, or on the Football field.
Lopez is excited about his new journey at Jesuit and has been welcomed with open arms.
“I most enjoy the people,” Lopez said. “There’s a lot of diversity here and everyone is really nice.”
Lopez has many responsibilities as a campus monitor that may not be apparent to students.
“My main responsibility is to make sure that the campus is safe,” Lopez said. “I communicate with my coworkers on making sure the campus is safe and I make sure everything is organized outside like parking lots and visitors.”
An Oregon native, Lopez grew up in Lincoln City, and moved to the metro area in 2016. He has worked in campus safety before, previously working at Forest Grove High School.
Outside of work, Lopez enjoys going out and spending quality time with his friends.
“We like to go bowling a lot,” said Lopez.
Not only is he a bowler, but he also enjoys playing and coaching sports.
“I’m a [Football] coach here, [and] that’s something I really enjoy,” Lopez said.
Lopez wants to leave everyone with the best piece of advice he was ever told, “what you know is what you don‘t know.”
To him, this quote truly emphasizes the mystery and unpredictability of life.
“You never know what’s going to happen … and when you think you have the answer for something you probably don’t,” Lopez said. “Life’s just random, and you can never predict it.”
Lopez is optimistic about the future, and looks forward to even better things as the year progresses. He would like the Jesuit community to know that he is very approachable, willing to volunteer, and is looking forward to being a part of the Jesuit community.
