The most recent episode of Walk the Block featured junior Agamya Guttal, Cancer Kids First club leader. Guttal talked about the purpose of the club and her role as a leader. Guttal came across a tik tok video of the CEO talking about Cancer KIds First and decided she wanted to make a chapter of it at Jesuit.
“I came across a video of their CEO talking about Cancer Kids First and what it is and I thought it was really interesting and thought that Jesuit didn’t really have a club that was doing similar work,” Guttal said
The club partners up with Randall Children’s Hospital. At club meetings they make cards and friendship bracelets to give to the children and they also have fundraisers to raise money to buy toys and gifts for the kids.
“Our goals this year are to get more students involved and spread more awareness. Also to get more involved with ASB especially because they do some stuff with other cancer non-profits.”
Cancer Kids First hopes to collaborate with other Jesuit clubs during the school year. They are planning on collaborating with a local run club this year to get more involvement.
“We really work on providing support for kids at the hospital. Patient support is definitely a key part of Cancer Kids first mission,” Guttal said.
They strive to make sure the children feel loved and supported, letting them know that there are people at Jesuit high who care about them. Especially during the holiday season, Cancer Kids First wants to spread extra love and joy to the kids, reminding them that they are not alone and that there’s a community cheering them on.
