Jesuit took on Westview in their third Metro League game of the season on Monday night. Jesuit, going into the game with an unbeaten Metro record, looked to continue their reign over Westview.
Staying with what works, Jesuit came out in their normal 4-4-2 formation looking to dominate in the midfield. The Crusaders had a strong start with both Natalie Webber and Marriane Dunne scoring in the first six minutes of the match. Missing senior forwards Claudia Rose and Kaitlyn MacLennan this season due to injuries, Jesuit changed up the starting line up at the forward spot after a strong season last year. However, Webber and Dunne seem to be finding their rhythm during a pivotal part of the season.
“I think Mare and Natalie did a really good job connecting this game and I’m really excited to see how they continue to do this and impact the rest of the season,” Rose said.
The Crusaders didn’t stop there, continuing to apply pressure to the Westview back line, resulting in numerous corners and goal kicks near the Westview goal. After tons of chances coming up just short for Jesuit around goal, junior Lane Lee nailed one into the side netting seven minutes before half putting the crusaders up 3-0.
The second half was more of the same for the Crusaders, as they continued to charge forward with numerous shots on and around goal. The Jesuit team looked very strong, breaking down Westview defenders through quick short passes. Senior Hanna Slamma and junior Marriane Dunne scored early in the second half after Jesuit’s defense and midfield strung together multiple passes to create chances for them.
Being down 5-0, Westview looked to counter attack an offensively powerful Crusader team. Oregon State commit London Tsuma had a few breakaways in the second half for Westview, however center backs Sophia Styles, Eva Styles and Peyton Andreas limited Westview to just one shot on goal all game.
“Our defense worked together really well and everyone won their individual battles starting with the goalkeeper’s all the way up to the forwards,” Styles said.
The Crusaders look to continue their dominance in their upcoming Metro games against Beaverton on Thursday and Southridge next Monday.
