On Tuesday afternoon, November 12th, the 5th seed West Linn Lions, took on the number 1 ranked, Jesuit Crusaders, at home.
Jesuit had just come off a big win in the quarterfinals against Barlow and were ready to bring it again today.
“I was super excited for the game. I know we have developed into such an amazing team and our chemistry is only growing. Going to the game, I was not nervous because I was able to rely on my teammates and their energy,” Marian Dunne junior said.
The Crusaders came out strong and kept possession especially in the Lions half. In the first 5 minutes, Jesuit was already challenging the Lions keeper.
The ball was mostly back and forth between Jesuit and West Linn, and the half ended with zero goals, leaving the game up to either team.
At halftime, Captain and Senior Sophia Styles said, “I was feeling excited because it was such a close game. I was also feeling calm because we had good chances in the first half.”
Styles was confident in her team’s abilities and knew they could get the job done.
With just over 10 minutes left in the game, the score was still 0-0, when Marian Dunne was fouled in the box and won a PK for Jesuit.
Hoping to put one on the board, Marian crushes it into the bottom left corner and makes the score 1-0.
Jesuit battled to keep their lead for the last 10 minutes, despite the Lions grit and aggression that they brought. Jesuit was just looking to maintain their lead and keep possession.
The game ended with a win for the Crusaders as they will advance into the State Finals in the 6A Division.
Final Score: Jesuit 1, West Linn 0
