RECAP: Men’s Varsity Basketball Defeats Lake Oswego 92-60 in their Opening Game.
On Friday night, the Jesuit Crusaders, ranked #9, took on #29 ranked Lake Oswego Lakers on our home court, ending in a 92-60 win for the Crusaders.
Going into the game, Joe Stimpson, junior and starter stated that not only he, but the team was excited and felt ready to bring their all.
“I felt really confident in our team and our ability to succeed, knowing the work we put in.”
Starting the game off strong Ryan Barone swished a three. LO responded quickly and put away a lay up in the next possession.
As the first quarter went on, Jesuit locked down LO on defense, not letting them get any points up. With just over 4 minutes left it was 12-3, Jesuit leading.
LO made the game closer as the quarter ended, making it 19-13, Jesuit still ahead.
During the second quarter, the score difference stayed similar, being 27-21 half way through the quarter.
During half time, starting junior Ryan Barone shared the team’s mindset going into the second half. Although the Crusaders were leading, the knew it was anyone’s game and they had to continue to play hard.
“I felt we were playing solid but we had another level we could reach.”
They continued to lead the second half, and pulled far ahead. LO could not keep up.
The clock buzzed and the game ended. The team was hyped after their big win and they were ready to bring that dominating mindset to the rest of the season and the Metro League.
“We competed really hard on Friday. The biggest thing moving forward for us is to trust Coach Potter and each other when we play and make our practices harder than our games.” Senior starter Patrick Kilfoil said.
