Aaron Perera ‘26 has been selected nationally in choir and will perform in Dallas, Texas.
Aaron‘s hard work and dedication to singing has landed him a spot in the national choir, to perform in Dallas Texas. This is not an easy accomplishment, as there are only 300 spots. There is also a lengthy process that everyone who auditions has to go through.
“The audition process consists of 3 tracks. First there are scales, and depending on what voice part you are there is a unique key for you. Next, there is a small excerpt of a song you have to sing. Lastly, you sing roughly one minute of your own solo. This is the part where you have to showcase your strengths and what you think are your best skills.“
Aaron puts in a lot of work with voice coaches and he is very happy to have gotten selected to participate in this event because it has been one of his goals for a long time.
“I’m really excited to perform in Dallas. Nationals has been a goal for me ever since I learned about it in freshman year, and now that I am finally there I am really grateful”.
Originally Aaron didn’t even know nationals was this year, so he rather focused on a solo contest that he was interested in, but as soon as he heard that nationals was happening he shifted his focus.
”It feels amazing. At first I started voice lessons so I could perform in the solo contest well, but then one of my friends from my choir said that nationals was this year and that we should audition. I started asking to focus more on that part instead of the solo part for a couple months to really try and perfect things I need to. I’m really glad that all the hard work from voice lessons paid off”.
Aaron will be performing March 19th to March 22nd in Dallas, Texas with 299 more nominees in the highest level in high school to show off his talents in a concert with some of the best singers in the nation.
