On Tuesday, February 25, the women’s basketball team played at the Southridge Skyhawks during Southridge’s senior night.
Southridge has had an incredible season with an overall record of 15 wins and 7 losses. However, Jesuit has had an impressive season, as well, with an overall record of 12 wins and 9 losses.
Earlier in the season, Jesuit competed against Southridge and lost with a score of 51 points for the Crusaders, and 59 for the Skyhawks.
Given the outcome of the previous game, Jesuit is playing with high hopes to win. If Jesuit takes the victory, then they have a shot at claiming the Metro League title.
The Crusaders are without star freshman 6’4 post Ceanna Forney so they had to have a different game plan with their smaller lineup.
Junior Lauren Reding stated how she felt going into the game with a different lineup.
“I felt confident in the new game plan with the new lineup because Coach Lowery prepared us well at practice. He gave us confidence by supporting us throughout the whole game.”
In the first quarter, the Skyhawks scored within the first 6 minutes of the game, making the score 8 points for Southridge, and 0 for the Crusaders.
Jesuit getting multiple rebounds, quickly after Southridge scored, Jesuit’s Amani Lubrano, scored a layup, making the score Southridge 8 and Jesuit 2.
Junior Reese Filkins added to the scoreboard significantly throughout the entire game, scoring the first 3 pointer in the first quarter.
After multiple points scored by each team, the first quarter score was 14 for the Skyhawks and 6 for the Crusaders. Southridge’s star player, Sara Mangan, is a lights out shooter, and scored multiple points for the Skyhawks during the first quarter.
In the second quarter, there was intense energy and significant amounts of effort given by both teams, but especially the Crusaders. The Skyhawks were comfortable and confident, knowing that they had beat Jesuit before, but their consistency was incredible.
During the second quarter, both teams scored frequently and the score was close, but the Skyhawks continued with their lead.
Jesuit’s senior, Audrey Bayless, scored multiple times for the Crusaders in the second quarter, making the score even closer.
At the end of the second quarter, the score was 26 for the Skyhawks and 18 for the Crusaders. After both teams had their halftime team talk, they both were ready to fight for a victory. Jesuit was eager to win.
In the third quarter, Reese Filkins scored multiple points and played incredible defense, especially on Southridge’s star player.
Jesuit kept their energy high and because the score was not too far off, they never gave up. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 42 for Southridge and 36 for Jesuit.
By the start of the fourth quarter, the Skyhawks energy was low and Jesuit maintained their intensity.
During the middle of the fourth quarter, the score was getting tight with Jesuit scoring multiple times. The score being 49 for the Skyhawks and 42 for the Crusaders. With multiple points from senior Audrey Bayless.
At the end of the fourth quarter, Southridge scored from extremely good defense and fast breaks. The final score was 60 points for the Skyhawks, and 50 points for the Crusaders.

“Now that we cannot win metro, we are focusing more on preparing for our next game against Beaverton, as well as the next step to doing well in playoffs and making it to Chiles again.”
