There’s a new chemistry and environmental science teacher taking over for Ms. Gorham while she’s on maternity leave.
Before coming to Jesuit, Mr. Walker mentored teachers and covered maternity leave at Scappoose High School.
Mr. Walker studied at OSU for food science and food chemistry during which he learned how to measure the PH of water and the water activity of products to make sure they’re safe.
“Environment science is kind of a blend of all the science it is,” Walker said, as he expressed his excitement about starting his time at Jesuit.
With his degree in Food Chemistry, Walker has worked in many different factories, such as the cheese factory on the OSU campus, a winery, and in Alaska processing fish.
Walker is currently finishing his Master's of Arts and Teaching from George Fox University.
On top of Walker’s studies, he loves hiking, biking, and camping. He has biked across Oregon, and finished the Oregon Part of the Pacific Crest Trail, which is the trail that starts from Washington and goes all the way down to the end of California.
“I’ve looped around Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens,” Walker said.
On top of being an outdoor lover, Walker experiments with food, making soy sauce over spring break.
“You let the soybeans mold and soak in water for a year,” Walker said.
Walker grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and went to Lakeridge High School. He played Water Polo on the school team and locally went fishing with friends.
Walker is super excited to be part of the Jesuit community while Ms. Gorham is on maternity leave.
“Everyone’s very friendly and nice, I’m excited for [the rest of the year],” Walker said.
