Coffee House is a place for Jesuit students to express their performance talents without fear. The third and final Coffee House of this school year is on May 16th.
Mr. Scott Reis has been Coffee House’s supervisor since 2013. A music lover, he enjoys going to Coffee House and seeing students step out of their comfort zone and perform.
“I think the most meaningful [part of Coffee House] is seeing the students get up there that aren't involved in the theater drama department where they're on stage and so this is their one little chance to have an artistic outlet or shine, and then to see the support [from the audience], and you see the performer smiling when they're walking off stage, how happy they are,” Reis said.
Senior leader Lizzie Dellit loves going to Coffee House to see Jesuit students shine.
“My favorite part of Coffee House is seeing people perform [who] I didn't think would perform, and they have these amazing talents that they get to share, and they get really joyful when they can share with other people,” Dellit said.
Coffee House is also a great place to be creative and get to know your peers better.
“There was a girl that I teach here; I had no idea she even played guitar, and she performed at the first Coffee House [this year], and she got up there and sang a song she wrote and played guitar, and everyone was like, wow. So, sometimes you're totally caught off guard by this student, that you might even have in a class, and then they have this talent that you had no idea of. You see another side of them,” Reis said.
Coffee House builds a loving and safe community that keeps students coming back.
“Coffee House is an amazing opportunity to try something new and meet new people within the sphere of the arts. You come and you share, and it's always so supportive,” Dellit said.
Coffee House is an amazing place to share and bond with peers.
“I love the community, and I love performing. My sister and I always do duets together, and it’s a magical experience that’s nice to be a part of every once in a while,” senior Angel Davin said.
The last Coffee House of this year is a special celebration for the seniors.
“It’s a really beautiful celebration, and a lot of seniors like to do solos and do the things that they hadn’t been doing before at Coffee House,” Dellit said.
It’s a great community and a safe space for Jesuit students to perform and shine, allowing for students to share their talents.
