Jesuit High School senior and standout athlete Grant Valley has once again put his name into the school’s record books, breaking his own 100-meter race record with a time of 10.50 seconds at the Cardinal Invite held at Lincoln High School.
This impressive performance bested his previous record of 10.69 seconds, set earlier this season at the Oregon Relays. This is now the second time Valley has broken the school record this season.
While wind conditions may have played a role in the race, no wind gauge was present to confirm if the time meets record-legal standards. Still, the accomplishment stands as a major personal milestone for Grant, who has shown extraordinary resilience after suffering a severe setback just a year ago.
“Feels pretty unreal to break the record twice in one season,” Grant said. “Especially when a year ago I had a broken leg, and now I’m exceeding my own expectations of what I even thought was possible. Just beyond thankful to be in the position I am in.”
Grant’s journey back to the track began after a devastating leg injury during a football game last year. This injury took him out for many months, setting him back dramatically. With consistent physical therapy and training, he was able to recover much faster than expected. His comeback has been nothing short of inspirational.
In addition to his accomplishments on the track, Grant is currently committed to Southern Oregon University, where he will continue his athletic career playing football and track. With a powerful combination of speed, explosiveness, and resilience, he’s in a position to make an impact at the collegiate level as well.
