Jesuit women’s lacrosse takes on the Grant Generals this Thursday at Lakeridge high school in a fight for the OGLA state title. The Crusaders are looking to uphold a strong legacy, as winning this year would mark their seventh state title in a row.
“The seniors, especially, are very excited as this will be our fourth state title game and we are hungry for a clean sweep,” senior Quinny Handley said.
After defeating OES 19-6 in the semifinals on Monday Jesuit has been gearing up to face a strong general side.
“We have been practicing really hard and spending a lot of time focusing on our team chemistry. As well, having coach Lakey consistently back has been beneficial for our success during playoffs,” Handley said.
The two teams faced off earlier this season during preseason, where both teams looked to gain an edge early on. The Generals and Crusaders were neck to neck all game, however the generals Northwestern commit, Kate Ratanaaproeksa had the final say in a last second goal putting the Generals ahead of Jesuit 8-7.
“We are excited about playing Grant again, especially since it’s the state championship. We’ve had time to adjust things that we needed to work on and we have improved a ton since the time that we last played them,” senior Gigi Abernethy said.
With both teams going undefeated since that game, Jesuit comes into the championship game Thursday ranked first with Grant ranked a close second.
Some key players to watch on the Grant side include midfielders Kate Ratenaaproeksa, Marina Streich, and Isla Hofflet. On the Jesuit side, midfielders Gigi Abernethy, Quinny Handley, and attack Georgia Daskalos look to make an impact in the championship game.
