After a hard fought week 1 loss against the 2-0 Tualatin Timberwolves, the Crusaders are looking for redemption as they prepare to face the Tigard Tigers.
Last year, the Crusaders destroyed the Tigers, beating them 42 to 21. This year, they’re aiming for a repeat performance with even more intensity.
Senior Jacob Gorman reflected on the Week 1 loss and emphasized the team's new focus.
“That loss was a good wake up call for our team that we need to step things up, bring more energy, and be ready to play.”
Despite the loss, the season opener featured stellar defense and running from the Crusaders, keeping the game close with a 7-13 final score and 211 rushing yards for junior running back Luke Ortner, keeping the crusaders close until the final whistle.
Even with this impressive stat line from Ortner, the Crusaders struggled in the pass game, suffering from sacks and incompletions with Junior Jack Wilson throwing 4/11 with 57 total passing yards.
Now, the team shifts its focus to finishing strong through the remainder of the non-league games before heading into Metro League play.
“We are all angry about last week's loss and are looking to come out and blow Tigard out of the water; our goal is to hold them to 0 points,” said Damian Hernandez.
Still, the Crusaders aren’t taking Tigard lightly.
“They’ve got a pretty quick running back, so we’ll have to be ready to make tackles in the open field,” senior Braden Baluyut said.
With high energy and a chip on their shoulder, the Jesuit Crusaders are ready to bounce back and send a message in their week 2 matchup.
Jesuit faces Tigard on Friday September 12th on Cronin Field, free admission with Student ID.
