On Friday, August 29th, Jesuit students gathered in the Knight Gymnasium for Jesuit’s annual Back to School assembly. As the smoke cleared from the Knight Gym entrance, five new staff members walked out on a red carpet. Among them was new Spanish teacher Ms. Adriana Noesi.
Ms. Noesi brings a variety of teaching experience to Jesuit High School. From teaching evening Spanish classes at Portland Community College to being the student activities director at La Salle High School, Noesi has wanted to teach since she was a child.
“I love teaching,” Noesi said. “I love hanging out with students and helping them grow in different ways.”
Ms. Noesi has always felt passionate about teaching Spanish in particular. “I love Spanish, my culture is really important to me, I speak Spanish at home,” Noesi said. “And it was important for me to hone in my Spanish skills, and so college helped me do that, and then I just developed a passion for teaching Spanish.”
Having worked at La Salle High School, Ms. Noesi has always known of Jesuit High School. Being the student activities director and working as a yearbook teacher at La Salle, Noesi said she contacted people at Jesuit with similar roles, like Dr. Exley. When deciding to start teaching Spanish again, she was interested in Jesuit, having known some of the faculty already.
“I wonder if this awesome school happens to have a Spanish opening, and they did.”
In comparison to other schools, Ms. Noesi said “the pacing is different, I’m just used to having a different rhythm of my work day…it’s also just farther from my house, so I’m waking up earlier, going to sleep earlier.”
Despite Jesuit bringing a different routine, Noesi is excited about starting at Jesuit and coming back to teaching Spanish. She returns to Spanish after 4 years as student activities director and yearbook teacher.
“I think the kids have responded well to me…and teaching Spanish has been a welcome change from student activities,” she said. “It’s been really lovely to be back into the classroom full time.”
