Jesuit has hired Scott Dalrymple and Alex Keudell ’08 as baseball coaches this year to strengthen their hitting, pitching and overall team performance.
Coach Dalrymple was previously the Beaverton head coach for the past 4 seasons and was on the staff for 8.
“Scott brings with him a wealth of experience at the high school, collegiate, professional, and international levels, and we are fortunate to have him join our program,” said head coach Colin Griffin ’00.
Dalrymple has previous experience playing baseball as he competed professionally in the American Association, Frontier League, and United Baseball League, playing catcher, shortstop, and third base.
Collegiately, he was a standout at Oklahoma City University, following his junior college years at Northeastern JC and Linn Benton CC.
Just like his playing career, coach Dalrymple is well rounded in the coaching field.
“He can coach first baseman, he can coach catchers, he can coach infielders,” coach Griffin said.
Griffin emphasized that he “liked him because he was intense and had a competitive side to him,” adding that hiring him was “a no brainer. It was just a matter of if he was willing to come to Jesuit.”
Similar to Dalrymple, Keudell also comes with a wealth of coaching and playing experience.
“He very much understands the value and importance of strength, conditioning and arm care,” said Coach Griffin. “I like that he understands the value of using a sports psychologist with his past athletes.”
Keudell was a former pitcher at Jesuit high school and the University of Oregon.
“I like bringing back alumni,” stated Griffin.
After 4 years as a Duck, he was drafted in the 27th round to the Los Angeles Angels. Keudell played 4 seasons in the Minors, making the Mid-Season All-Star Team in 2013.
He attributes his accomplishments to focusing on the mental side of pitching.,
“The reason I had success at Jesuit, Oregon and in the minors was my focus on the mental game and process rather than on the result.”
Keudell said his previous pitching experiences will help the team by “Making sure that these kids have a program and a plan for them to develop as great players.”
After retiring in 2014, Keudell switched gears to coaching, starting off with Northwest Diamond Sports Academy, where he coached a variety of age groups.
“I just want to stay involved in the game. I enjoy baseball, and I am looking forward to getting back into these kinds of competitive games,” said Keudell.
Current baseball athletes Mitch Yoshinaka ’28 and Ethan Peng ’28 also praised his leadership, as he was their club baseball coach saying, “He always would push us and give us challenges to be our best.”
“The nice thing [about] everyone we hire to coach is that they are well rounded,” said coach Griffin, which is very visible in coach Dalrymple and coach Keudell as they can coach all positions.
