This year Jesuit has come up with the idea of choosing three students from the senior class, “Spirit Directors,” who will bring the most spirit to all sporting events. With this, as Jesuit students often show high spirits at the beginning of the school year before falling off the spirit train, many are curious how these directors plan to keep the spirit up all year long.
The three Spirit Directors, Callum Foley, Griffin Nichols, and Jack Thornburg, sat down with Jesuit Media to talk about their positions and plans for the year.
“We get the crowd excited,” Foley said when asked what exactly it is that the spirit directors here do at Jesuit.
“We get the crowd up and moving,” followed Thornburg.
The spirit directors have so far backed up these statements through our football games as they have managed to not only keep the crowd loud, but also the attendance strong for the entire game.
The selection process for these directors is another piece many are curious about as there was no student voting or involvement in choosing these candidates.
“I think it’s really because of how cool, stylish and crazy we can get,” Foley mentions.
The directors have also taken up matching outfits of striped overalls during each game along with forming new chants for ramping up the energy and spirit.
Going forward, many are also wondering how the directors plan to continue the spirit all year long and what their essential goal is for the student body.
”We’re really just trying to build a legacy out here,” Foley said.
“It’s different this year because we want it more than last year,” added Thornburg.
