After a hard fought victory against the Tigard Tigers, the Crusaders are matched up against the Rams of Central Catholic. The Crusaders are currently 1-1 going into week 3.
In the 2023 season the Crusaders faced the Rams and lost 6-28. Now two years later the Crusaders are looking for revenge. This game holds a lot of meaning for this year’s seniors with this being possibly the last time they could face off against their biggest rivals.
Senior Jacob Gorman knows they have a challenge ahead.
“We recognize that Central is a good team and it is going to be a good opportunity for us to put our name back out there as one of the top teams in the state.”
A win could have Jesuit putting themselves back on top of the rankings.
If they want to win, they’ll need to continue their run-heavy offense. Luke Ortner exploded for 357 yards rushing in week 2 versus Tigard. No one would be surprised if Jesuit decides to keep feeding Luke Ortner after his three touchdowns this past week.
Central Catholic had a week two loss to the Lakers of Lake Oswego making their overall record 1-1. They won their first game against Central Catholic (California). So far they have had a heavy passing offense through the first 2 weeks. Jesuit will need key defensive stops just as they did against Tigard when junior Kyle Goodwin had a late game interception to clinch the game for the Crusaders.
Senior wide receiver and defensive back Nick Zervis is ready for the rivalry game.
“This game means a lot. It’s a rivalry that’s gone on for a while so it’s always fun to get the opportunity to play in it. I think it’s going to be a good battle and we will be ready for when the time comes.”
Senior wide receiver and linebacker Jack Tuenge knows the team is ready for their upcoming challenge.
“I’m really excited to play this game and have been looking forward to it since it was scheduled. This game means a lot because it’s a game where we can prove ourselves and beat our rival. Every game is equally as important and this game is the most important game for us right now because it’s the next one.”
Jesuit is ready and hungry for their upcoming rivalry match. Friday September 19 at Cronin Field at 7pm.
