Jesuit High School’s Knight Gym has a brand-new look after its first major renovation since construction in the late 1980s.
The project began at the end of June with the goal of being ready for fall sports camps. Crews installed new bleachers complete with safety rails, repainted the walls, and sanded the hardwood floor all the way down before applying a fresh coat. The result is a brighter, cleaner, and more modern look that should last another 10 to 15 years.
Athletic Director Mr. Griffin called the changes “bright and fresh,” adding that the new updates “give a modern day type of look.”
Though electrical work is still in progress, the gym is fully functional for teams and fans. Jesuit has also maxed out its capacity to display banners, in line with fire codes, which Mr. Griffin says speaks to the school’s strong athletic history. As new titles are won, older banners will be rotated out to other facilities.
Players are already noticing the difference.
“I like it,” senior basketball player Sam Curvey said, “It makes it feel more like a cage with all the green around you. It feels different for sure and I’m excited for something new that we’ve been needing for a while.”
Senior volleyball player Kiana Johnson also shared her excitement about the changes: “I think the new gym brings in a new era for the athletic programs that compete in there. The lines and walls are a lot cleaner and the bright yellow in contrast with the green on the court definitely adds a pop compared to the old gym. The State Champion boards aren’t up yet but I am excited to see what it looks like with those up there.”
Looking ahead, the school has even considered installing a digital scoreboard, though Mr. Griffin acknowledged it would require a significant investment. For now, though, the community is enjoying a gym that feels refreshed and ready for the next generation of Crusader athletics.
