Jesuit receives their second loss on the season falling to Central Catholic 6-35. Putting the crusaders at 1-2 at the start of the year.
The Crusaders had an impressive start to the game, scoring on the first drive by junior running back Luke Ortner. Unfortunately Jesuit missed the field goal, but were still up 6-0 two minutes into the game.
The Rams had an outstanding second play on offense Central’s senior quarterback Robbie Long rushing 62 yards to put his team on the scoreboard. The Rams connected on their field goal putting them up 6-7.
Jesuit’s offense struggled on the next drive while Central Catholic’s iron defense took control of the game, forcing a turnover on downs. Central advances up the field and scores another touchdown plus a PAT put the Rams up 14-6 midway through the second quarter.
Despite Jesuit’s best efforts the Rams forced another turnover and scored a 30 yard touchdown with a PAT. giving them momentum heading into halftime up 21-6.
Senior Braden Balyut has this to say about Jesuit heading to the locker room for halftime,
“Going into halftime Central scored on 2nd and deep and it sucked giving up a touchdown right before half. Heading into the locker room we stayed positive and ready to keep competing”.
On the Crusaders first drive of the second half junior running back Luke Ortner had an impressive 27 yard run. Jesuit made it into the redzone, but unfortunately could not convert on scoring a touchdown or a field goal.
With 7 minutes to go Central Catholic scored another touchdown from 42 yards away. The Rams took a commanding lead scoring another touchdown and a PAT putting them up 28-6.
As the game was winding down Central sealed the game with one more touchdown with 2 minutes to go. Plus a PAT put the Rams up 35-6. The Crusaders look to bounce back facing the Grant generals next game.
Senior John Ching believes they can bounce back after the loss.
”We feel pretty good about where we are at this season. The score of this game does not reflect our team overall. I think that we are going to be a team people do not want to face the rest of the season”.
