On Monday September 29th, currently ranked #3 Jesuit women’s soccer (6-1-0) took on the #13 Lakeridge Pacers (6-0-1).
The Saders are on a big winning streak and have stayed undefeated all season, and this game would be no different.
Jesuit did not lack in goals, scoring six while Lakeridge only had one. Senior Josephine or Jo Frischneck scored a notable team goal.
“‘Jo, that was just absolutely amazing, it was a textbook play, a great cross from Natalie Webber and a really good finish by Jo,”’ junior Vega Arancibia said.
The Jesuit team has been focusing on settling the ball and playing on the ground, but are working to find opportunities for diagonal long balls connecting to their wingers.
Jesuit's other goals were scored by sophomores Aliyah Johnson, Eva Hairston, and senior Ana Kubiaczyk. All of their goals found through individual ball work and pushing past the Pacers defenders.
The Pacers did not make it easy for Jesuit to play out from the back line. Lakeridge focused on holding a high press and capitalized on weak moments Jesuit had while trying to move the ball up the field.
“‘They did a really good job of pressing, they came immediately and it was hard to break that line,” Arancibia said.
This game was crucial for Jesuit not only for rankings but also in preparation for the Metro League competition.
“‘I think Lakeridge will be a lot like Beaverton, because Beaverton has some good attackers and I think that they will come out hard,” senior Josephine Frischknecht said.
Getting a winning result against Lakeridge boosted the Crusaders motivation.
“‘Lakeridge has been doing well so far. So I think beating them gives us confidence and shows everyone that we are here to win,”’ Frischknecht stated.
Frischnecht was correct, winning last night’s game moved Jesuit’s ranking to number two in the state with Metro League opponent, Beaverton High School staying at the first ranked position. Continuing to build the anticipation for those teams to go head to head in just over two weeks.
