The Jesuit Crusader destroyed the Grant Generals last Friday with a final score of 36-0.
The Crusaders looked stunning, with junior QB Jack Wilson throwing for 3 touchdowns and the team rushing for 203 yards, featuring a rushing touchdown from junior RB Luke Ortner.
The Crusaders looked at improving their blocking following the tough loss to the Central Catholic Rams, which evidently showed in their dominant performance against the Generals.
The game started off strong for the Crusaders defense, capitalizing off of a faulty snap and causing the Generals to be in a tough 2nd and 21 situation to start the game. After 2 more defensive stops, the Generals were forced to punt the ball.
The Crusaders got hot on their opening offensive drive, with Jack Wilson throwing a 30 yard touchdown to senior WR Jack Tuenge, his first of the season.
“It felt great to get my first touchdown of the season. I just found the opening in the defense and Jack threw a great ball” Tuenge said.
An impressive tackle for loss by junior Luke Hanifan forced the Generals to punt the ball again. After another swift drive, Jack Wilson was able to run the ball in from the 1 yard line.
When the Generals got the ball back, a failed snap put them in a tough 3rd and 29 situation. Grant QB Gage Creasey overthrew a ball intended for WR Will Stapleton and that’s when senior Roman Mallard jumped up, and intercepted the ball, further continuing the momentum for the Crusaders.
On a tough 3rd and 16 and a rather quiet 3rd quarter, Jack Wilson threw another deep ball to Jack Tuenge, putting the crusaders on the 25 yard line in scoring position. Quickly after, Wilson threw another deep ball to junior Kyle Goodwin, who managed to get his feet in and score for the Crusaders, making it 22-0 in Jesuit’s favor.
Luke Ortner put up the first touchdown in the 3rd quarter with a 10 yard run following the impressive blocking of senior FB Owen Vance.
Senior FB Noah Khan closed out the game for the crusaders, scoring the final touchdown of the game on a short 5 yard pass.
”It felt great,” Khan said, “having my first ever touchdown on the game when I was a captain was an awesome feeling and all the guys around me getting so excited was so fun and a great feeling and memory.”
In the final play of the game after a quiet 4th quarter, junior Penny Harrison jumped up and snagged an impressive interception and returned it for 30 yards.
“Even though the game was already wrapped up, it still felt good to get that interception. For me it was special being my first game, but really it was about ending the night on a high note for the team. It gave us that last bit of energy to finish strong and celebrate together” Harrison said.
The Crusaders finished the game 36-0 after a strong defensive and passing performance from the team.
The Crusaders take a trip to Westview this Friday, October 3rd to take on the Westview Wildcats.
