Volleyball’s senior night was a success as Jesuit beat Southridge in three sets.
Although Southridge put up a good fight, Jesuit was able to maintain control throughout the match.
“I thought the match went really well. Southridge played pretty well, and we were not exactly expecting that, but I think that we stood strong and really played to the best of our abilities,” senior outside hitter Sadie Ross said.
The team was able to dominate early on, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
“The best part for me, I would say, was the way we came out in the first set; it was really nice. I felt like we came out with the mentality that we’re seniors, we’re upperclassmen, and then everyone else in the court wanted to play well too. We wanted to make sure we were representing, and I feel like we did a good job coming out strong,” Jada Johnson, a senior outside hitter, said.
The game was volleyball’s last home game, making the game more special to the seniors.
“I think it gave the game a deeper meaning. Instead of it being just another home game, it was really like the last one, and there’s so many seniors, and so it was a goodbye to half the team. So it was really, really emotional for us,” Ross said.
The seniors made sure the underclassmen felt supported as they got playing time during the game.
“The seniors all cheer the whole team on, it’s amazing,” senior Olive Brown.
The seniors have worked to strengthen the team’s community and create close friendships between teammates.
“I love how close knit we are, like we have all the way from seniors to freshmen. But I think that this year, the team has done a really good job of being really close. And like, no matter how old you are, no matter what classes you’re taking or whatever, like, you always have people next to you that you know and trust,” Ross said.
As seniors, the girls work to keep morale high and be good leaders when the team struggles.
“I think being a captain and also being one of the starters on the team, you have to make sure you have a strong voice. So I want to make sure I’m setting a good example for all the underclassmen and all the people who come on the court, and I feel like I can be a welcoming face to them and play with joy. My smile is something people talk about a lot, so I just make sure to smile at them and make sure we have fun together,” Johnson said.
Playoffs start on November 7th for the Crusaders.
