This past weekend, the Jesuit women’s soccer team faced Sheldon in a quarterfinal state playoff match, thumping them with an 8-0 mercy rule with 8 minutes remaining in the game.
Moving on to the semifinal round, the Crusaders are set to face their metro league rivals, the Beaverton Beavers, for the second time this season.
Earlier this season on October 16, the team traveled to Beaverton for their annual metro league match, the Crusaders taking home the win with a 6-1 victory over the Beavers.
Head Coach Steve Fennah shared his thoughts on what he was most looking forward to for the upcoming rematch.
“It will be a good competitive game, good high school game, and two strong teams that will obviously be at their best at this stage of competition, so it should be fun,” Fennah said.
During their first matchup this season, the Crusaders went down 0-1 within the first five minutes off of a penalty. Jesuit then fought their way back on the scoreboard with opening goals by Aaliyah Johnson and Estelle Lee.
Senior captain Jo Frischknecht shared her prediction for what the team’s energy will look like going into the game.
“I think both teams are really excited to play this game and it’s a rivalry game, so I think it will be really high intensity.” Frischknecht said.
Senior Lane Lee reflected on what is going to be necessary to come out with a result from this game.
“I think going on the field and bringing the energy and positivity and working hard for each other. I think there’s going to be a lot of energy surrounding the game, leading up to the game, so it’s going to be important to take the energy and direct it towards the game.” Lee said.
Assistant Coach Darren Chilton mentioned what is going to be needed of the team in order to succeed.
“It’s really just doing what we do well on our own field, is really going to help us, because when we play at pace we look really good.” Chilton said.
The Crusaders will face off against the Beavers on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00PM on Cronin field for the semi final round of the OSAA girl’s soccer state playoffs.
