Jesuit played Ida B. Wells at Cronin Field on Wednesday night.

Under the bright lights of Cronin field the Jesuit Women’s soccer team breezed by Ida B. Wells.

Heading into Wednesday night’s match, the Crusaders were looking to extend a three-game win streak against Ida B. Wells. Jesuit took control of the game immediately with a fierce offensive that led to multiple shots on goal.

Summit’s keeper was able to fend off Jesuit temporarily as she denied a phenomenal shot by Audrey Kent. Jesuit struck twenty minutes into the first half as Claudia Rose slipped past the Guardian’s back line, to find the left corner of the net.

Jesuit extended their lead with a goal from Mariane Dunne that helped build momentum. Crusaders struck again after Claudia Rose found Abby Cox inside the box for the third goal of the first half. Moments later Eva Grunkemier sent the ball over the Guardians back line that found Cox for her second goal of the evening.

Firmly in control of the match, Jesuit ended the half with a 4-0 lead over Ida B. Wells.

Entering the second half the Crusaders showed no signs of easing up, as they continued to mount an all out offensive on the Guardians. Which culminated in a goal from Makende Stewart off a great piece of skill from the senior.

As the second half progressed the Guardians found their rhythm, and attempted to claw back into the game. On a corner Ida B. Wells almost found their first goal of the evening on a superbly placed corner, but the Crusaders keeper Lauren Butorac swiftly intercepted the shot.

The goal of the evening came from Gabriella Armango whose shot at buzzer flew over the head of the Guardians keeper into the upper right corner of the goal. Cementing an all-around dominant performance, and ending the match with a 6-0 Jesuit victory.

After an incredibly dominant performance by the Jesuit team, Aoife Gish shared her thoughts on the win.

“I’m really proud of how we stayed in the game in the second half, and I’m very glad we got a last minute goal from Gabriella.”
