On Tuesday April 23, the Jesuit Crusaders (15-0) took on the Sunset Apollos (11-3) in a rivalry matchup which took place at Jesuit High School.

The Crusaders went into the matchup ranked number three according to OSAA and the Apollos went in ranked number five. The series will likely decide the Metro League title.

The pitching matchup was an exciting one with Johnny Ingalls pitching for the Crusaders and Kruz Schoolcraft for the Apollos. Schoolcraft is a top ranked 2025 in the country and is expected to be a highly touted Draft Prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft.

In the top of the first inning, Kruz Schoolcraft led off the game with a first pitch bomb giving Sunset a 1-0 lead early. Ingalls was able to retire the next three however, only giving up one run.

For the Crusaders, senior Ruben Landeros started the hitting with a double over the center fielder’s head in the bottom of the second.

Jesuit put pressure on Sunset in the fourth inning playing small ball. Bunting runners into scoring position and making the Apollos make mistakes, then capitalizing. The score through four would end up being 2-1 with Jesuit taking the lead back in the fourth.

The fifth inning would again be a scoreless inning for both teams. In the top of the sixth, Sunset came up with some big hits, putting up two runs and taking the lead back from the Crusaders.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jesuit would get a runner on but would be doubled off to end the game.

Final score: Sunset Apollos 3-2. Sunset is now 16-0 while Crusaders are 11-4.
