On Monday May 25th, Jesuit Softball faced Century in their first playoff game and beat the Jaguars with a 15-0 victory.
The Crusaders started the game off strong by scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Liz Jacobs started the rally with a double, scoring two runs. Selah Greene and Paisley Rhyne singled, each scoring one run. Greene managed to score on an error by the Jaguars’ third baseman. Mason Rethwill drew a walk on her second at bat of the inning, scoring one run. Aubrey Rhodes doubled, scoring two runs, and Dulcie Cleeland and Jacobs both singled, scoring three more runs collectively.
In the bottom of the second inning, Rhodes added to their early lead with a single, scoring one run. The Jaguars’ second baseman commits an error on Cleeland’s hard hit ground ball, bringing Rhodes in to home.
Adalyn Rhyne earned the win for the Crusaders, allowing zero hits and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Jesuit tallied 14 hits in the game with Jacobs and Rhodes driving in three runs each. The Crusaders stole eight bases and didn’t commit a single error on the field.
The Crusaders are now headed off to the second round of playoffs where they will travel to Keizer to face the McNary Celtics.
Jesuit faced McNary earlier this year in their annual season starting Jamboree. A Jamboree includes three teams that play each other for three innings. Jesuit won 2-0 in their three innings against McNary.
If the Crusaders win they will move on to the quarterfinals this Friday.
