The Jesuit Men’s lacrosse team gears up for what promises to be an exciting and challenging season, looking to add a fourth ring for some seniors and prove themselves as one of the top contenders in the region. They look to defend their state championship title with many teams entering the competitive atmosphere like Sunset high school and Lakeridge high school up and coming programs this year.
The returning players look to fill big shoes with the likes of players like Christian Buck and Porter Makiel departing Jesuit to continue their athletic journeys at major division one programs. Current seniors like Thatcher Killian and Trace Spreen will have to take initiative to lead their teams. Thatcher Killian, a senior midfielder will have to take initiative to lead the offense to a deep playoff run. Trace Spreen, a senior goalie looks to control this year's defense by making stops that will be instrumental to their success.
“The seniors need the younger talent to step up after losing numerous talented defensive players from the 2024 class,” senior goalie Trace Spreen said.
With a new season comes new competition around the league and country. Early in their season during spring break they head off to Seattle to play three dominant teams in Washington Eastlake, Seattle prep, and Bellevue. Seattle Prep, a Jesuit high school in Seattle, won the championship in the Private school divisions in Washington last year. Jesuit plays Seattle Prep twice this season once earlier in the season in Seattle and again at home. Jesuit looks to defeat these teams in consecutive games hoping the long drive and unfamiliar environment does not affect their games against these tough opponents.
“We will have to conserve our energy throughout the trip to win all three of our spring break games in Seattle. I hope that we can win all three games and show our dominance over the Pacific Northwest,” senior Midfielder Ryan Jack said.
Head Coach Micheal Marcott returns along with his coaching staff with former collegiate and professional players.
In past years the team has gone to Texas and California to compete against top talents in those larger states with more dominant teams. Staying in the Pacific Northwest will help them focus on winning another state title and less on trying to prove their talent against out of state teams.
“Coach Marcot is definitely a driving force in our success. His ability to hyperfocus in games and practices keeps all of us playing at our best,” senior defender Quintin Stanley said.
Jesuit opens the season facing Sherwood on March 18th and hopes to start off the season by making a statement and displaying their force to obtain a fourth consecutive state championship.
