Womens Lacrosse is off to a hot start starting 3-0 to kick off the 2025 season. The Crusaders played St Marys Tuesday March 18 where they won 16-2 and played West Linn on Thursday March 20 where they won 15-4. The Crusaders were led by senior captains Quinny Handley, Gigi Abernethy, Georgia Daskalos and Taylor Stalick.
After a week of strong games, the Crusaders got a much needed break during spring break. This week, however, they are back at it with three games to lead off the second half of their season. This week they are playing Tigard at Jesuit on Tuesday April 1st, Lakeridge at Jesuit on Friday April 5th and Seattle Prep on Saturday April 6th.
On Tuesday against Tigard the Crusaders beat the Tigers 16-0. They had many different goal scorers during the game and everyone on the team got multiple reps.
This Friday they take on Lakeridge, who they have beat by over 10 goals the past 3 years.
Last year the Crusaders traveled to Seattle to play Seattle Prep and Mercer Island. They beat Seattle prep by a lot last year, however, when they went to Seattle last year to play Seattle Prep, half of Seattle Prep’s team was not there due to other commitments including soccer tournaments and an athlete competition.
Their team is the second best team in Washington and gives Mercer Island, the one seed, a run for their money each year.
Captain Quinny Handley is committed to the University of Pennsylvania to play lacrosse next year and in the St. Mary’s game she had a total of 5 goals and 2 draw controls. She is excited to get back into the swing of things this week and eager to play a extremely talented Seattle Prep team.
“We are excited for the game on Saturday to play a really solid out of state team,” Handley said. “This will set up well for our tougher in state games and since we faced Seattle Prep last year and they were missing key players, it will be a much different game this time.”
Captain Georgia Daskalos was proud of how the team played in the past few games especially after the Tigard game on Tuesday and describes how the team is versatile and has great team chemistry.
“I think the team chemistry is really strong this year. All of the stuff that we have done on and off the field has impacted our performance in a positive way,” Daskalos said.
Being well rested and having a 3 practice week will benefit the Crusaders to continue their winning streak and give them an edge into the rest of the season.
