When students returned from Spring Break, they may not have noticed the newest addition to the Jesuit community, Mr. Robb. He joined the IT department as the new Network and Systems Administrator and while his work is mostly behind the scenes, his impact will affect how everything rolls on campus.
Mr. Robb brings more than two decades of experience in IT, along with a background that began in science and education. He first made the switch to IT while working at a school where a tech position opened up, and he took the opportunity while he could.
“Turns out having a science background is very, very helpful when you’re doing IT,” Robb said. “You have to be very thorough, very reasoned, and do things step by step.”
After 10 years of working in education prior to IT, Mr. Robb is excited to be back in a school community setting. He is currently learning Jesuit’s systems and preparing for summer upgrades, including updates to email and server infrastructure.
“A lot of big projects happen when students aren’t here,” Robb said. “So this summer, we’re looking at doing some work.”
Mr. Mike Wallace, Jesuit’s Director of Technology, expressed enthusiasm about the new hire. He believes Mr. Robb’s blend of teaching experience, scientific thinking, and technical expertise make him a strong fit for the team.
“His job is to keep the technology of the back end running so it works well for all of us,” Wallace said.
As Mr. Wallace transitions to a more strategic role in the department, he is confident that Mr. Robb will take care of the servers day to day.
Mr. Wallace advised aspiring IT students to stay curious: “Be willing to try things out… if you enjoy it, keep pursuing it and see where it goes.”
