Twas the weeks before Christmas Break, and all through J-High, students moved with excitement as December flew by.
The two weeks before Christmas Break are some of the busiest weeks in the school, filled with assemblies, concerts, and other special events. Teachers also assign lots of homework, tests, and projects, which adds onto the stress before the most wonderful time of the year.
However, these experiences are part of the magical Jesuit has during December, so let’s take a look at the upcoming events.
The week of December 8-12 is a Christmas themed spirit week, starting off with Merry Monday, which is a chance for students and faculty to wear their ugliest sweaters, and the student with the ugliest sweater gets a gift card. Tuesday’s theme is Jingle All The Way, which means to wear your best christmas hats and accessories. Wednesday is Santa vs The Grinch, and students get to pick their favorite holiday character by wearing either red or green. On Thursday, students get to wear Christmas pajamas or sweatpants, which is always a favorite, and finally, on Friday, if you earned a food drive shirt, you can wear that with sweatpants.
Next up on December 9 we have not one, not two, but THREE assemblies. These assemblies showcase the Christmas Concert and allow students to see a little bit of what’s happening the next night on December 10.
The evening of December 10 is the full choir and band Christmas Concert starting at 7pm in the theater.
Hitting the Moyer Theater stage again on Saturday, December 13 is the Freshman Ensemble performing Stinky Cheese Man at 2pm and 5pm. The play is a comedy about classic children stories being reimagined with new characters.
The following week is where most of the food drive action takes place, and it’s the final week before we get a two week break for Christmas.
On December 17 first period and sixth period are switched for collecting the food drive items which gives the students a new and exciting schedule.
The next day on December 18 is the first of the two half days before Christmas Break, and the reason for this half day is the food drive delivery.
December 19 is the final day before Christmas Break, and there is both a dress up day and a half day. The Christmas Mass is arguably one of the most magical times in the church, as the Knight gym is decorated to fit with the Christmas spirit.
With so many events packed into 2 weeks, December at Jesuit is lively as ever. These next 2 weeks are full of Christmas themed activities, assemblies, and food drive traditions that bring the community together. After that, students and faculty have a well deserved break.
