This Friday, December 12th the Jesuit Men’s basketball team plans to defend the Knight Gym against the Roosevelt Roughriders in the 2025 season home opener.
With a 58-63 loss against the #1 ranked Oregon City, 60-48 win over Sherwood and 76-30 blowout against La Salle Prep, The Crusaders are currently 2-1 and ranked 9th in the state according to osaa.org.
On the other hand, the Roosevelt Roughriders are currently ranked #24 in the state carrying a 0-1 record with a 64-72 loss to West Albany.
The team has been focusing on keying in on the areas of struggle within their first few games, with team captain Sam Curvy placing an emphasis on improved ball security.
“To limit turnovers we need to be more patient and not be too antsy. We just need to run our sets and make the right decisions that I know we can make” Curvy said.
Turnovers were a struggle for the Crusaders in the first couple of games, with an average of about 10 turnovers per game to start the season. This made a difference against Oregon City and allowed the Pioneers to sneak away with the win.
“After playing the Oregon city game we realized that we need to play together and trust each other. We have all the right pieces, we just need to put them all together and keep building” Curvy added.
Coming off of an impressive blowout with noticeable improvements vs La Salle Prep, the Crusaders are going into the next game with their heads held high. With Senior Ryan Barone scoring 13 points in the game, he expresses how the team is feeling going into the next matchup.
”We’re all really excited to play at home after three games on the road, and we all know that Roosevelt is a good team. They’ve had success these past few years and so we need to be ready from the jump in order to be able to win the game” Barone said.
Going into the next game vs Roosevelt, the Crusaders are looking to utilize their talent and shake off any rust from previous games.
The Jesuit men’s basketball team hosts their first game of the season in the Knight Gym on Friday December 12th, free entry with student ID.
