Midfielder Kate Gabrielson has committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of California, Berkeley.
After about 10 years playing the sport, the Jesuit senior captain now hopes to finish off her high school career by leading her team to a sixth consecutive Oregon state championship.
Gabrielson has been playing lacrosse since first grade and decided that she wanted to play collegiate lacrosse while in middle school. By her junior year summer, she had a list of Division I programs that she was interested in. Gabrielson attended camps and tournaments across the country and ultimately decided on the University of California, Berkeley because it met both her academic and athletic goals.
Now as a committed athlete and starting midfielder, she is excited for the upcoming season with the Jesuit Women’s Lacrosse team as they pursue their sixth consecutive Oregon state championship.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of this team for one last year,” Gabrielson said.
“It’s a lot of pressure to step into this big role of being a captain,” she said. “But the team is very strong and connected, so that makes it easier.”
She hopes to uphold the team’s five-year winning streak and takes inspiration from leaders in the past to be a good captain.
“The past captains all led by example and inspired me to be the best captain I can for the team” she said.
Gabrielson hopes to finish her high school career strong before beginning the next chapter at UC Berkeley.
