This Tuesday, April 21st, the Women’s Lacrosse team will visit the Southridge Skyhawks for their second Metro League matchup of the season.
The Southridge Skyhawks are ranked #25 in the state, hold a record of 3-2, and are coming off of a 13-12 win over South Salem.
Ranked #5 in the west coast according to laxnumbers.com, the Jesuit Crusaders are confident and coming off of a big win over the Grant Generals after a goal in overtime to secure the victory at 16-15. The Crusaders have formed a recent rivalry with the Generals after beating them in the 2025 OGLA state championship and competing with them for the #1 seed.
“We were definitely super excited after such an intense ending like that. Luckily we have practiced and prepared for moments like that specifically with high level teams like Grant that allowed us to come out as the winners in the end, even with the pressure of being a rematch of last year's state championship” senior Taylor Young said.
The class of 2025 had a big impact on the Crusaders, losing all-American talent including Bucknell freshman Gigi Abernethy and UPenn freshman Quinny Handley. The crusaders are still holding strong in all aspects of the game, however.
“They set a high standard and held all of us accountable for always bringing our best selves to the team on and off the field which created a competitive, exciting, and fun environment and we are so grateful to have the opportunity to build on that legacy as the seniors and captains this year” senior Kate Gabrielson said.
On the offensive end, the Crusaders are led by senior Kate Gabrielson who has 26 draw controls and 16 goals over 7 games. Juniors Hazel Mackey and Izzy Tamerlano lead the team in goals, with 19 and 22 respectively. On the other side of the field, Junior Vermont commit Claire Comstock leads the team with 11 caused turnovers.
Coming off of a big overtime win and working hard to continue the season undefeated, the Jesuit Women’s Lacrosse team is feeling confident heading into their game at Southridge.
