Claire Schnappenberger is a Spanish teacher coming back to teach her 6th year at Jesuit.

Spanish teacher Claire Schnappenberger returns to Jesuit for another year after taking some time away for family.

Schnappenberger had previously taught at Jesuit for 5 years before spending time abroad when she was married and had a child.

After achieving a masters degree in education, Schnappenberger became a teacher with multiple skills and has taught more than one kind of subject.

“I have taught Spanish and French and also IB English,” Schnappenberger said.

This is her twelfth year in education, previously traveling the world to teach at different schools in places such as Alaska, Shanghai, China, and a Spanish Immersion School in Anchorage.

Excited to be back at Jesuit, Schnappenberger spoke about what she enjoys most about the community here.

“There’s so many reasons that I came back to Jesuit, I missed it a lot,” Schnappenberger said. “I missed being in the classroom—the fact that we are able as teachers to focus on the formation of the individuals, in addition to academic excellence is the biggest pull for me.”

She enjoys and appreciates Campus Ministry, as she believes it is a great educational environment.

“I love the encounter,” Schnappenberger said.

Having a new-born baby at home, Schnappenberger works part time this year, in charge of three periods, as she wants to spend afternoons with her new-born.

The best advice Schnappenberger has ever received is consistency over intensity.

As she goes into this new year, Schnappenberger is hopeful and expresses her excitement about the future at Jesuit.

“I’m really excited to be back, over the moon excited to be back.”

I missed being in the classroom, Jesuit specifically, the fact that we are able as teachers to focus on the formation of the individual, in addition to academic excellence is probably the biggest pull for me to come back. I love the campus ministry program. I love the encounter.”

What is something the community should know about you?
“Probably that I’m part time, I teach three periods, so I’m never here in the afternoons because I go off to my baby.”

Addy Azavedo
Addy Azavedo, Staff Writer
Addy Azavedo is a determined and hard-working junior who attends Jesuit High School. Through seeing media in everyday life, she has become interested in the intricate inner workings of media creation. As this is Addy’s first year in the world of media, she is eager to learn more about camera production and design. Addy is primarily interested in writing about topics in sports and analyzing matches that are competitive and high-intensity. She finds announcing and commentating intriguing which she hopes to explore throughout this year. In Addy’s free time she loves to hang out with friends, spend time with family, bake, and pursue volleyball. Her favorite class at Jesuit is any math course as it challenges her to think critically. If she isn’t learning more about media or focusing on academics, you may find her on a court or a beach playing volleyball. Throughout the year, Addy loves to volunteer with a local organization called Play.Fit.Fun whose goal is to provide an opportunity for children to stay active and have fun. Addy is very excited to start learning more about media production and take her knowledge into the world. She hopes to create meaningful stories that other students will find inspiring and useful.

Mackie Malkiel, Staff Writer
Mackie Malkiel is a sophomore at Edison High School. His first taste of media came from taking photos of Legos with his parents iPhones. He latter started to use his parents camera for his photography. He would take pictures of Legos and action figures of Star Wars characters. He then would latter take the pictures and digitally draw on them to make it look like the characters were in a battle. When his older brother was a sophomore, Mackie would take the camera and go to his lacrosse games and take pictures of his brother and his buddies. He has been interested in photography since the start of the pandemic back in the sixth grade. He still is curios on what makes a good sports photo and what makes a great sports photograph. He wants to learn what it means to be right next to the action and still be able to take a photo regardless of what the situation might be. He also likes to play lacrosse with his friends outside of the classroom. He is exited to play for a great lacrosse program and to play with his brother for one last ride.
